Helping Young People Feel Heard, Understood and Supported

Growing up can be exciting, confusing, challenging, and overwhelming and sometimes all of these at once.

Young people today face a wide range of pressures, including school, friendships, family relationships, social media, identity, self-esteem, anxiety, uncertainty about the future, and growing up in an increasingly complex world.
Sometimes what makes the biggest difference is having someone outside of family, school and friendship groups who will genuinely listen without judgement.

One of the most common things young people tell me after our sessions is:
“I feel better.”
“I finally feel like someone understands.”

My approach is warm, person-centered and practical. I take the time to get to know each young person as a unique individual, creating a space where they can speak openly, explore what’s going on for them, and feel heard and respected.

I offer longer 90-minute sessions because building trust and meaningful conversations take time. These sessions allow space to move beyond surface issues and focus on what is really happening beneath the challenges a young person may be experiencing.

While a strong therapeutic relationship sits at the heart of my work, I also draw on approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy and Motivational Interviewing when appropriate. These approaches help young people develop deeper insights, build confidence, help them to cope better, and learn some practical ways to navigate challenges.

  • Youth counselling can support young people experiencing:
  • Anxiety and stress.
  • Friendship difficulties.
  • School-related challenges.
  • Low confidence or self-esteem.
  • Family conflict.
  • Big life changes and transitions.
  • Emotional overwhelm.
  • Identity and self-discovery.
  • Difficulty expressing thoughts and feelings.
  • Feeling stuck, misunderstood or alone.

My goal is not to tell young people what to do, but to help them better understand themselves, learn how to work things out more clearly, acknowledge their strengths, and develop the skills to move forward.

Sometimes feeling understood is the first step towards feeling better.

If you’re a young person looking for support, or a parent seeking help for your child, counselling can provide a safe space to explore challenges, build resilience and navigate the ups and downs of life with greater confidence and support.
